Design of the Jura E6

As expected of the talented design team at Jura, they have crafted yet another sleek and sophisticated espresso machine.

The E6 model we have is in platinum, which is the color of both side panels, while the middle section is a glossy high quality black plastic.

The machine is 11 inches in width, just over 17 inches in depth, and just under 14 inches in height, weighing 21.6 pounds.

Starting from the top of the machine, the quick and quiet Aroma G3 grinder stows nearly 10 ounces of fresh coffee beans, remaining flush with the rest of the top, hidden behind an air-tight bean hopper lid.

The left side of the top can be lifted to reveal the 63.6-ounce capacity water reservoir, which can also be conveniently accessed from the front.

Moving down the machine, the focal point of the design is the shiny espresso spout which adjusts smoothly between 2.6 inches to 4.4 inches in cup clearance.

To the right-hand side of the spout is the milk/hot water spout, which can be changed out via the milk solution attachment.

Below that is a stainless-steel drip tray, which stands out from the crowd due to its low profile not commonly seen in espresso machines.

It makes use of the width of the machine to still hold a suitable amount of drip. When pulled out, it reveals the dredge box which holds 16 brew cycles – an above average amount that greatly adds to the machine’s convenience.

We purchased the Coffee Center bundle which includes the Jura brand glass milk carafe and amazing smart water filter, among multiple other helpful accessories.

Features & Performance:

Jura Patented Tech: I.P.B.A.S. and P.E.P.

Optimize extraction time and thoroughly develop the nuances of your coffee beans with Jura’s patented technology: the Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (I.P.B.A.S.) and the Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.).

The Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System allows for custom drink preparation between 5 and 16 grams of coffee, which will be gently pre-infused before Jura’s unique extraction process begins.

The aptly named Pulse Extraction Process pulses pressurized hot water through your pre-infused coffee in short intervals to perfect the extraction time.

This process gives your short espresso drinks a rich, fully developed flavor profile unlike any other. With an amazing eight levels of intensity, you can make an espresso that really packs a punch, just the way you like it.

AromaG3 Grinder: Bean to Cup in Less than 1 Minute

Jura continues to pull out all the stops with its innovative AromaG3 grinder, that’s 50% quieter than and twice as fast as the market standard.

With Jura’s modern AromaG3 grinder, you can go from bean to cup in less than a minute. Choose between 6 grind settings from a coarse coffee grind to a fine espresso mill to get the precise flavor you’re looking for – fresh and fast.

Fine Foam Technology

We’ve found that some milk solutions that claim to create multiple different milk textures, fail to do any one of them particularly well.

With Jura’s fine foam technology, they focused specifically on cappuccino milk, and it pays off.

Enjoy finely textured, feather-weight milk foam in an instant whenever you want a cappuccino with the Jura E6.

Simply place the tube attachment into the glass carafe, Jura’s Cool Control container, or your preferred cup of milk, and switch the knob to create a perfectly timed amount of foam that is easily adjustable on the TFT display and switch the knob off to begin the espresso brew right into the foam for a gorgeously layered cappuccino.

Tip:  The most important requirement for getting fine, creamy, feather-light milk foam is: milk temperature of 39 °- 46 °F.

So, consider investing in a Jura Cool Control (view on Amazon), a convenient way to enhance your coffee experience.

Smart Connect Compatibility

As is tradition for the Jura brand, they continue to innovate and expand on the conveniences of their machines. One such innovation is the J.O.E. app (Jura Operating Experience) which brings Jura’s automation to your smartphone or Apple Watch.

Jura’s Smart Connect (view on Amazon) is a small $50 accessory that can be plugged into your Jura E6 to activate the ability to command your coffee to brew from anywhere with the J.O.E. app.

This little innovation allows you to customize your coffees on the go, add personalized images, and best of all command the machine to begin crafting your café-quality beverage with the touch of a button or through a verbal request to Siri.

Intelligent Water System (I.W.S.)

One of our favorite features of this Jura machine is its Intelligent Water System (I.W.S.) Can you tell Jura loves acronyms?

This one describes the technology that’s in the water reservoir and CLEARYL smart water filter that lets you know when to change it out.

The best part? So long as you use and replace these filters as directed, you will never have to descale your machine. Now that’s convenience!

Maintaining this innovative modern automatic espresso machine is as simple as can be.

The Jura E6’s integrated internal maintenance operations can be initiated with the touch of a button.

The dishwasher safe spout is a breeze to clean and can be quick-cleaned while attached to the machine – hygiene guaranteed. Plus, as we just discussed, you never have to descale this machine.

Things to Think About

It’s important to consider what this machine lacks as well to ensure if it’s the right option for you. So, let’s talk about what you won’t find on the E6. For one, there is no cup warmer on this machine, but we’re pretty sure that was an intentional design choice to keep the machine looking tidy.

Secondly, there’s no option to make lattes. Of course, you could make your own latte milk separately and add it to the Jura’s delicious espresso, but it’s not all-inclusive. Finally, there is no bypass doser on this machine, so you can’t use pre-ground specialty coffees.

The last drawback would be that the cappuccinos are not truly one-touch as advertised. You do have to manually switch the milk on and off, so it’s not a completely handsfree experience.

Setup Process:

The setup process for the Jura 15070 E6 Automatic Coffee Center is simple and fast:

  • Step 0: Unpack, choose if you’ll use the filter, rinse the loose parts of the machine, and fill your water reservoir and bean hopper, then plug in your machine.
  • Step 1: Set up your preferences and language on the TFT display and complete the automatic rinse cycle when prompted.
  • Step 2: Make A few test espressos and adjust the grind and volume settings accordingly.
  • Step 3: You’re ready to enjoy supreme convenience and delicious coffee!

These days, the automatic espresso machine competition is fierce, and consumers have a lot of options within each price range. When looking below the $1500 range, the options you have are vast in variety, so this time we went with a comparison request from our readers: The Jura E6 versus the Gaggia Accademia.

Design Comparison

We quite enjoy the design of both machines for different reasons.

The Jura E6 has a neat, modern look that benefits from a smaller height and much lighter weight.

The Jura has integrated multiple innovations not seen in the Accademia, including the smart connect capability and intelligent water filtration system.

On the other hand, the Gaggia Accademia has a classic style that benefits from a better cup clearance of up to 6 inches.

While we really enjoy the English inspired look and the use of stainless steel on the Gaggia Accademia, we must give the overall design crown to the Jura E6 for its cleaner look and higher level of modern innovations.

Function Comparison

The functionality of these machines seems very similar on the surface, but there are actually a lot of unique functions to each machine.

The overarching similarities are that they both include an automatic milk solution, the ability to make espresso, coffee, and cappuccinos, and are bean to cup machines.

Going into the differences, the Gaggia Accademia has a bypass doser for ground coffee and adds lattes, latte macchiatos, and espresso lungos to the recipe lineup.

It also adds a manual steam wand into the mix so that you can create latte art – a favorite feature of ours.

Another exclusive function it has, not seen on any non-Gaggia machines, is the flow control function that changes the pressure flow for a more authentic tasting coffee versus espresso on the same machine, which we also really love.

For the Jura E6, you’ll get 8 intensity settings versus the Accademia’s 3, and a few more modern conveniences.

For example, you’ll have the ability to operate your machine from your mobile phone or Apple watch, you’ll never have to descale or remove the brew group to clean, and you can go more brews before having to refill the water tank or empty the dredge box.

Plus, if you want to keep your milk out and attached the machine at all times, you can do that with Jura’s Cool Control container accessory; there is no option like this for the Accademia.

Which model should you get?

Considering these two machines are the same price, and each have equally cool exclusive functions, it’s up to you which you go with. We give our stamp of approval to both machines and can vouch you’ll get delicious and consistent results with each.

If your ultimate concern is convenience and you’re especially impressed with the conveniences of the digital age, we think you’ll like the Jura E6 best. If you’re an extreme coffee lover who likes convenience but also wants to get involved in the process of crafting their beverages too, then the Gaggia Accademia might be your preference.
